Dear Juno,
You are very brave and very tough. Not every girl can go ahead and handle a teen pregnancy the way you did, and you are extremely lucky to have parents that supported you and took care of you every step of the way. First off, this chain of events could have been avoided and your womb could have been spared for another twenty or so years however, we needed a good story to watch with character development and a happy ending. You should have started off using a condom. Boysenberry, or not, condoms are effective 99.9% of the time. Yeah, I know it feels better going raw-dog, but dealing with the consequences is definitely not worth how good it feels, and obviously Paulie Bleeker needs to work on his pull out game.

You and Bleeker are much too young to start a family. Having sex shouldn’t always lead to having a baby, but in the event that one is created the two individuals responsible must be prepared. If the two individuals aren’t prepared, which you both obviously are not, they may carry the baby to term and put it up for adoption, obviously you know this, or they may abort the baby. I am happy to say your decision was a good one. Even though giving the child to a single mom is questionable, Vanessa seemed like she would be a damn good one. Not very many people can have such circumstances you have. Having familial, or financial support in order to take care of the baby until it’s born. In the Supreme Court case “Roe vs Wade”, the court decided, “that a right to privacy under the Due Process Clause of the 14th Amendment extended to a woman’s decision to have an abortion,”. Most women young, or old, take into account their right to abort the child. Whether it’s because of their religious denomination, financial situation, familial situation, or they plain just want the thing gone they will or will not do it. According to the CDC, “In 2013, 664,435 legal induced abortions were reported to CDC from 49 reporting areas. The abortion rate for 2013 was 12.5 abortions per 1,000 women aged 15–44 years,”. Abortion is not a very uncommon thing at all and I think if your circumstances were much worse you would have taken that route instead of carrying the baby to term.

I personally am Pro-choice, and I advocate the right to abortion. If I was in your situation as the male, I would push for abortion not just for me, but also for the girl involved. Your situation is one in a million, having very unlikely circumstances and for pretty much anyone else, they would go ahead and get the abortion. I’m not saying you should have gotten the abortion or not however, your circumstances are a little movie-esque, shall we say. Abortion would fit the needs of most other teens. No one wants to carry the baby to term, undergo all the tests as well as the public ridicule in high-school or otherwise.
